Helper, a delivery boy for Gunn, delivered two heavy packages of groceries to Reed’s porch. As instructed by Gunn, Helper rang the bell to let Reed know the groceries had arrived. Mrs. Reed came to the door and asked Helper if he would deliver the groceries into the kitchen because the bags were heavy. Helper did so, and on leaving he observed Mrs. Reed having difficulty in moving a cabinet in the dining room. He undertook to assist her, but being more interested in watching Mrs. Reed than in noting the course of the cabinet, he failed to observe a small, valuable antique table, which he smashed into with the cabinet and totally destroyed. Does Reed have a cause of action against Gunn for the value of the destroyed antique?

The brochure you created in Unit 7 has prompted Luis Ortega to donate his ranch as a center for an expansion of services! The BYS board is very excited but is a little concerned because the ranch is located in an area with many new immigrants. The executive director has commented that in order to ensure that the expansion includes many teens from various cultures, staff and BYS teens need to increase their understanding of various cultures.

Your job is to prepare training for youth or staff about different cultures. This workshop will include several activities:

    Create a PowerPoint® presentation of at least 12 slides to highlight cultural differences. Remember to begin by with a slide listing the training outcomes.
    Create one activity to use as part of the training that can promote positive cultural exchange.
    Create a list of 2–3 events that can be held over the next several months to continue the spirit of cultural exchange. The events can be presented in a calendar format or as a list.

Your PowerPoint presentation should be at least 12 slides, plus an additional title slide and a slide(s) with references in APA format. Provide appropriate citations in APA format either on the appropriate slide or in the notes section of the slide that summarizes information from the referenced material. Be sure to look at the grading rubric in the Syllabus to ensure that you have covered all of the expectations for the Assignment!

How might a Victorian audience have reacted to Stevensons’ “A Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”?

Why is Humpty Dumpty’s position on language use — “When I use a word, it means just what I choose it to mean” — absurd? Use at least two of the authors we have read so far to explain the flaws in Mr. Dumpty’s language philosophy. Prompt 2: Computer communication Read the short science fiction story “A Senseless Conversation,” posted on Dropbox(Reading for Prompt 2). Imagine that the story were true; does the “senseless conversation” that the story recounts constitute true communication? Compare and contrast how you think two of the authors we have read (but not Hockett) would respond to this question, and explain which viewpoint you are more inclined to agree with and why. Prompt 3: Icon, Index, Symbol Your significant other leaves you a note that reads, “You need to get more milk.” This instance
of “you” has iconic, indexical, and symbolic dimensions. What are they? What is this instance of
