What does logical positivism suggest to us about constructivist-based theories? Do you agree or disagree?

Prior to engaging in this discussion, please read chapters five and six in your e-book and review the Instructor Guidance. If your last name begins with A-M you will discuss the theory of constructivism and its relationship to learning. If your last name begins with N-Z, you will discuss humanism and its relationship to learning psychology.

  • Constructivists suggest that a person’s reality is unique from others and thus, effects what, how, and how effective knowledge is acquired. This is suggested to be affected by numerous variables such as culture, past experiences, and past knowledge.
  • Humanism posits a purposefully person-centered approach to learning, that includes personal growth, focus on self-development, and personal needs.

Consider the following as you discuss:

A-M:

  • What does logical positivism suggest to us about constructivist-based theories? Do you agree or disagree?
  • How do exogenous constructivism, endogenous constructivism, and dialectical constructivism differ and why does it matter?
  • How does situated cognition (discussed in Week 3) support the suggestions made by constructivism?
  • Discuss a personal experience where you feel constructivism ideologies explained either the effectiveness of, or the non-effectiveness of, the learning experience. Would you consider this learning experience exploratory learning, inquiry learning, or problem-based learning? Why?
  • What implications in learning effectiveness might exist if construction of individualized knowledge is negated?

What are some potential problems you might encounter, and what strategies would you use to minimize these problems?

Assignment 3: Research Design and Data Collection

Submit your response to the Submissions Area by the due date. Your response should be at least three pages in length.

Given the hypothesis high employee satisfaction is correlated with low employee absenteeism, address the following in your paper this week:

  • Identify the variables in this study. What are some extraneous variables that might impact your research? How would you control for extraneous variables?
  • Which research design would you use to study this hypothesis and why?
  • What data collection techniques would you use to study this hypothesis and why?
  • Assuming that you get a correlation of r = -.70, what does this tell you about the strength and direction of the correlation between satisfaction and absenteeism?
  • What are some potential problems you might encounter, and what strategies would you use to minimize these problems?
  • Use APA standards.

For this assignment and all Submissions assignments, you are required to cite, at a minimum, the online course and the textbook for the course.  Additional sources are welcome. Scholarly sourcesare preferred and can be found through Argosy University online library resources.  Please see the Library and Tutoring Services section under Course Home to use Argosy University online library resources.  Additional, non-scholarly sources from reputable Web and print sources are also acceptable. For reputable Web sources, look for .org, .net, or .edu sites as opposed to .com sites. Avoid Wikipedia.

Analyze the services a person with exceptionalities might require as he or she transitions through adolescence to adulthood.

Transitional Services

Transitional services are critical for helping children with exceptionalities to successfully complete their schooling and transition into adulthood. One of the more daunting transitions is from adolescence to adulthood because children no longer have regular access to the professionals they did during their school years.

Using the Internet, research transitional services available in your state. The Center for Parent Information and Resources offers a helpful Web site for researching various services. You may also use other reliable sources. The details of the CPIR Web site are as follows:

  • Center for Parent Information and Resources. (n.d.). State agencies addressing disabilities. Retrieved from http://www.parentcenterhub.org/repository/stateagencies/

Based on your research, address the following:

  • Analyze the services a person with exceptionalities might require as he or she transitions through adolescence to adulthood.
  • Evaluate the transitional services available for your state. Be sure to list the Web sites and names of the agencies providing these services.
    • Compare these to the services you listed as being desirable for a person with exceptionalities transitioning to adulthood.
    • Present an evaluation of the level of services available.
  • Describe your search for information about transitional services.
    • What kinds of difficulties did you encounter in locating the information you needed, if any?
    • What sources did you use?
    • How did you go about finding information?
  • Provide your recommendations for locating services needed for people with disabilities as they transition into adulthood and addressing the challenges associated with gathering information.

Write a 3–5-page paper in Word format. Be sure to include separate title and reference pages.

A strategic plan is a document used to structure and communicate organizational goals. It is also used to mitigate risks and alleviate the potential for legal cases. Barbara receives information that there is an additional, more pressing issue at a satellite clinic that is not documented in the original UCCO case. This issue relates to the emergency care clinic, which is used to treat patients with trauma-related injuries. The clinic has been over-utilized for the past year, resulting in stressed staffing, overwhelming costs, and decreasing quality of patient care and customer satisfaction. Staff productivity is affected by use of personal cell phones and clinic equipment is often used for social media.

In one particular case, a 13-year old patient was seen for trauma care by the UCCO Emergency Clinic. The patient’s parents make it clear to the staff that they are not willing to give consent to any procedure involving blood products or transfusion. The risks are explained to the parents. The patient arrived unconscious but shortly regains consciousness. After the parents leave the room, the patient tells the nurse that she is afraid of dying and would like any care, including blood procedures and products, to save her life. The nurse later finds out that the rejection by the parents was due to religious reasons. The nurse quickly discusses the case with fellow employees, one of which posts comments on her social media page using a clinic-owned computer. The nursing director give a verbal warning to all involved nurses and staff.

Visit the Rasmussen online Library and search for a minimum of 3 articles covering the topics of ethics, healthcare professionalism, and federal legislations. Conduct academic research using the library’s databases, like:

  • CINAHL
  • Discovery
  • Business Source Complete via EBSCO
  • Business via ProQuest

In the databases use basic search languages (controlled vocabulary/keywords) to determine ethics laws specific to this situation. Some keywords to consider are healthcare professional code of ethics. Then, refine your searches based on your search results. Make sure to include a minimum of 3 credible, academic sources in your paper.

Using your research, address the following points in a 4-page report:

  • Was the nursing manager legally compliant with to protect patient information? Explain the legal risks and support with federal legislations and professional expectations, such as HIPAA and professional codes of ethics.
  • What bearing does the age and religious requests have on the patient’s case? Are there medical and ethical laws that supersede the parent’s requests?
  • What is the role and importance of communication among UCCO facilities, particularly in reference to compliance and ethical standards?
  • What are the ethical and professional factors of using social media?
  • Were the reactions to the patient’s case illegal, or just unethical? How does this align with UCCO’s mission, values, and strategic action plans? How does it compare to your own personal beliefs and values?

Remember to integrate citations accurately and appropriately for all resource types; use attribution (credit) as a method to avoid plagiarism. Use NoodleBib to document your sources and to complete your APA formatted reference page and in-text citations.

Identify the discipline issues to be addressed: attendance, performance, conduct, or a single broad category of non-performance.

Resource: Avery Foster v. Federal Express Corp., 2006 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 53779 (E. Dist. Ct. MI)

The issue in the case is whether the company’s employment handbook created an implied contract. Avery Foster was terminated for falsifying an employee timecard. He argued that he was told in his initial interview that he would be guaranteed employment at Federal Express as long as he was a good worker and was protected from “just cause” termination. The court found there was good cause to terminate Avery Foster and that the handbook did not create an implied contract of guaranteed employment.

Progressive discipline is an employee disciplinary process that provides a graduated and measured range of responses to employee performance or conduct issues. Critical thinking consideration: Short of termination, could progressive discipline have been effective in this matter?

Given the circumstances and issues that arose in the Avery Foster case, create the following:

  • Design a Progressive Discipline Policy that would be appropriate for most organizations to follow, with consideration to the following measures:
    • Identify the discipline issues to be addressed: attendance, performance, conduct, or a single broad category of non-performance.
    • Determine whether or not the provisions of the policy should permit the company to modify and/or apply the policy in any manner it deems appropriate under the circumstances, including acceleration of steps, exclusion of steps, or repetition of steps.
    • Assess when a supervisor may act independently or needs to seek upper management approval.
    • Explain instructions on when to involve Human Resources.
    • Clarify the role of Human Resources to advise or approve disciplinary action.
    • Determine when a witness should be present.
    • Outline the different sequences and progressive levels of discipline that an employee can receive.
    • Develop rules regarding merit increases in relation to disciplinary action.

Write the policy in the third-person in no more than 1,400 words.

Use headings that appropriately signal the steps and keep your policy organized.

Use a minimum of three different research resources, and identify all sources in your Reference pa

Would the message be understandable (e.g., would it be muffled, circumstantial, tangential, rambling, mumbled, pressured, etc.)?

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please read Chapters 3, 4, and 17 in DSM-5 Made Easy: The Clinician’s Guide to Diagnosis; Cases 18, 19, and 20 from Case Studies in Abnormal Psychology; and Chapter 1 in Psychopathology: History, Diagnosis, and Empirical Foundations. It is recommended that you read Chapter 1 in Turning Points in Dynamic Psychotherapy: Initial Assessment, Boundaries, Money, Disruptions and Suicidal Crises.

For this discussion, you will choose from one of the three “You Decide” case studies included in Case Studies in Abnormal Psychology. The case study you choose for this discussion will also be the case study you will use for your Psychiatric Diagnosis assignment in Week Six.

In your initial post, you will take on the persona of the patient from the case study you have chosen in order to create an initial call to a mental health professional from the patient’s point of view. In order to create your initial call, evaluate the symptoms and presenting problems from the case study, and then determine how the patient would approach the first call.

Create a document that includes a transcript of a call from the patient’s point of view based on the information in the case study including basic personal information and reasons for seeking out psychotherapy. The call may be no more than 5 minutes in length. Once you have created your transcript you will create a screencast recording of the transcript using the patient’s voice. Based on the information from the case study, consider the following questions as you create your recording:

  • What would the patient say?
  • What tone of voice might he or she use?
  • How fast would the patient speak?
  • Would the message be understandable (e.g., would it be muffled, circumstantial, tangential, rambling, mumbled, pressured, etc.)?

You may use any screencasting software you choose. Quick-Start Guides are available Screencast-O-Matic (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. for your convenience. Once you have created your screencast, include the link and the name of the case study you chose in your initial post and attach your transcript document prior to submitting it.
