1. Introduction

Simulation of a typical cellular communication is the main goal of the current research problem and thus a case with communication service provider organization CellAsUGo is considered. OPNET Modeler is used as the simulation tool to design the network prototype of UMTS cellular network and based on the case study the required analysis and assumptions made prior to design the simulation are as provided

1.1 Requirements and Simulation Assumptions

Following are the key requirements and assumptions made to design the simulation of UMTS cellular network

· CellAsUGo is one of the popular cellular communication service provider and currently suffering with bandwidth, throughput and bit error rate issues with respective service delivery models

· Thus an installation proposal of UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication Services) is taken at the organization end and the main goal is to improve the quality of service and increase the total number of subscribers as well.

· A complicated UMTS prototype is designed using the simulation models and the overall network performance is investigated against the key performance constraints as listed

· A total of 30 mobile nodes or subscribers are assumed to be the end users to be served and is achieved with the typical communication equipment like

o 6 Node B’s

o 1 GGSN as configured and connected to the respective servers

o 2 RCN’s

· Entire proposed prototype design is assumed to support both the UDP and TCP application traffic in the form of applications given below

o Web applications (HTTP)

o File transfers (FTP)

o Email communication (Email)

o Real time voice communications like VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) with PCM quality of service configurations
