Relationship between Sleep and memory storage

People that have deep sleep have very good long term memory.

Children have a much better memory than young adults.

After the age of 14, deep sleep is reduced and long term memory is less acute.

The area that is being pointed out consolidates memory during deep sleep.

When we are in deep sleep there is a small portion of the brain which is referred to as the hippocampus that forms the limbic system. This system is a complex set of structures that lies on both sides of the thalamus, just under the cerebrum. It includes the hypothalamus, the hippocampus, the amygdala, and several other nearby areas. The brain remains highly active in deep sleep and these portions of the brain are stimulated even in deep sleep where the electrical performance promotes active and silent states of cortical neurons during deep sleep. Traces of periodic memory acquired during wakefulness and primarily stored in the hippocampus are gradually transferred to the cortex as long-term memory sleep. The relationship between sleep and memory storage is the parts of the brain, hippocampus, amygdala, and the hypothalamus continues to be stimulated in deep sleep and awake.
