It looks at avoidable civilian deaths in two areas;

Roberts argues that ‘direct and indirect lethal and non-lethal

violence against women on a global scale…is linked by socially constructed attitudes that originate in social belief systems that have
been culturally codified and correspondingly normalized. Legal systems have…strengthened this power and domination relationship, which
turn legitimizes such locally accepted behaviour as acceptable and normal’ [ p 65] He calls such large scale normalised violence against
women ‘structural femicide’.
