Unit VII Assignment

Instructions: This assignment involves answering two questions, and each question provides you with an opportunity to accomplish the following learning outcomes:

1. Evaluate the effect of attitude, personality, and goal setting on work performance development.

1.1 Explain how professional etiquette impacts workplace relationships.

1.2 Explain how a professional can proactively approach career changes.

Be sure to answer each question, save all of your work in this template, and submit it in Blackboard for grading.

1. This question involves explaining how professional etiquette can impact professional relationships. Consistently displaying proper etiquette is a reflection of one’s organization and can build or destroy business relationships. For this question, explain the importance of social behavior and share an example of a situation you have witnessed where someone’s behavior affected one or more professional workplace relationships—feel free to include positive or negative examples. Your response must be at least 250 words in length.

2. This question involves explaining how a professional can proactively approach career changes. Entrepreneurship remains vital to small business development. With 96.1% of all businesses categorized as a small business, the likelihood of you either being an entrepreneur or working for one is extremely high. For this essay, visit www.sba.gov and view the characteristics of and opportunities available for an entrepreneur. After reviewing the possibilities, state whether or not you have an interest in entrepreneurship. Then, explain how you could use the information on www.sba.gov to proactively approach career changes. Remember, your essay can take the position of actually being an entrepreneur or at least working with an entrepreneur. Your response must be at least 250 words in length.

Straight compliance with HAZCOM

Does your current organization (or one you used to work for) have a written hazard communication (HazCom) program? Have you been (or were you) provided a copy of, or received any training on, the various program elements? What changes would you recommend to improve OSHA compliance? If the organization does not have a hazard communication program, do you feel one is needed? Why, or why not?

Assignment

Conducting Your Own Field Sobriety Test

This assignment will give you the opportunity to conduct your own Field Sobriety Tests (FSTs). As outlined in your text, there are three standardized tests used by an officer to determine if a suspect is impaired. Select one of the following learning activities on which to base this assignment:

  • Using the three standardized tests, conduct mock FSTs. Evaluate your ability to perform the tests and any issues you feel these tests might provide in determining if someone is under the influence. Knowing what you know about ethanol and blood alcohol concentration, how would you explain in court what it means to be driving under the influence?
    • Document your findings in a two-page paper; include a brief detailing of each of the field sobriety tests, describe your ability to perform the tests, evaluate field sobriety tests as a persuasive means of proving impairment by alcohol, and explain the weaknesses of using field sobriety tests in court to prove alcohol impairment.
  • Watch the video, Top 3 Sobriety Tests – number 2 (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., of an officer initiating a traffic stop of a suspected drunk driver and the officer’s attempted evaluation of the driver. Document the manner in which she performed these tests. Knowing what you know about ethanol and blood alcohol concentration, how would you explain in court what it means to be driving under the influence?
    • Document your findings in a two-page paper; include a brief detailing of the field sobriety tests, describe the ability of the driver to perform the tests assigned, evaluate field sobriety tests as a persuasive means of proving impairment by alcohol, and explain the weaknesses of using field sobriety tests in court to prove alcohol impairment.

The assignment must be formatted according to the APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Cite your resources in text and on the Reference page, as appropriate. Commercial/Public Assembly Fire Scenario

For this Assignment research a commercial or public assembly fire.

Describe at least four fire control principles and an incident command system that were applied to these incidents. What fire control principles would you have applied this type of fire, including hose line selection, resources needed (deployment of personnel and equipment the incident command system, and strategy and tactics.

Discuss the preplan for the fire you chose. Was the preplan for this structure adequate? What should have been included in preplan and why?

Create a minimum 10 slide PowerPoint presentation that addresses the assignment questions

In addition to fulfilling the specifics of the Assignment, you should format your presentation in accordance with the following guidelines:

Include at least two sources to support each of the trends in your presentation.

Use one basic slide design and layout.

Use charts and graphs as needed.

Limit slides to between six and eight lines of content.

Use bullets for your main points.

Use speaker notes to fully explain what is being discussed in the bullet points as though you are presenting to an audience.

Use APA citations on appropriate slides.

Hazardous Materials MGMT. Case Study

Unit III Case Study

You have been hired as a consultant by your town’s emergency management coordinator to help develop emergency action plans. One of the reasons you were selected is your expertise in using the General Behavior Model (GEBMO) to assess risks. Your first task is to assess the hazardous material risks at a local gas station. The station has one 30,000-gallon underground storage tank compartmentalized to hold 10,000 gallons each of the three gasoline grades, and there is one additional 10,000-gallon tank for diesel fuel. The station has four pumps, and each one can deliver all four products. Also on site is a 2,500 sq. ft. concrete block building used for the cashier and retail sales of service station and convenience store items.

The station is located at a busy intersection near the center of town. It is adjacent to several other local businesses that do a brisk business during the day. Across the street from the station is a large housing development with an elementary school. Behind the station is a city park with playgrounds, baseball fields, and a large wooded area.

Use the GEBMO framework to assess the risks related to the fuels in the underground tanks. Consider physical, chemical, and natural hazards that may contribute to the risks.

1. Discuss how you applied each of the steps in the GEBMO process and what risks you identified.

2. Provide recommendations for preventing spills or releases.

3. Discuss response actions required in the event of a spill or release.

Support your discussion with appropriate references and in-text citations. Your submission must be a minimum of two pages and a maximum of four pages in length.
