Contemporary,
or the current research that relates on patient safety outcomes to ADN
and BSN nurses are basically and assumingly stating that the quality of
patient care be contingent or depends on the level or balanced of
well-educated nursing workforce. Numerous or several researches have
presented or shown that there are drop or lower mortality rates, shorter
length of stay in hospitals, fewer medication errors, and positive
outcomes in treatment regime, which are linked to nurses prepared at the
baccalaureate and graduate degree levels. The American Association of
Colleges of Nursing (AACN) is fundamentally committed and unswerving to
working with various institutions collaboratively to design or create a
more exceedingly or highly qualified nursing workforce since education
improves or enhances both clinical competency and care delivery services
(ADN vs BSN Approaches to Patient Care. n. d. 2013).

Nonetheless,
nurses with an associate degree (ADN) do the same job as those holding a
BSN. They pass the same NCLEX exam, hold the same license, and often
start at the same entry level salary as a BSN holding nurse. No one is
saying that BSNs are “better” nurses and ADN-prepared nurses are “bad
nurses. Here are the facts: medication errors, hospital-acquired
infections (HAIs), and other issues that lead to poor outcomes are
largely due to the system and process problems. This systems approach
does not seek to pin blame on an individual. Hence, to facilitate and
help correct the systems errors, health care needs more nurses that are
primed and prepared to implement solutions and the BSN curriculum
accentuate and emphasizes leadership and evidence-based practice in a
way that the much shorter ADN program cannot. This is also true of the
fact that research showing that hospitals with a more educated nursing
workforce entertain lower mortality rates and better patient
outcomes.(American Sentinel University, 2014).

In my experience, I
believe when come to administrative, leadership and managerial capacity
or analytical and critically concept, with decisional and nursing
judgment or research and informatics enquires, would fall under the
category of BSN and graduate degree levels. More-so, displaying these
technical know-how skills and knowledge will bring better nursing care
development and enhance a rise to the expectations of nursing industry.
Nonetheless, ADN prepared nurse, may not be adequately prepared for
these kind of nursing leadership roles that will be needed for the
future of healthcare as suggested in the IOM report (American Sentinel
University, 2014).
