Dominant Narratives in the Media:
Examining the power of media and cultural expressions to frame our
points of reference and shape our responses to race and social justice
issuesDominant Narrative: “All Immigrants are criminals and/or corrupt
this country” or ” All immigrants still jobs” Concealed Story:
Immigrants come to the United States for a chance at a better life and
better employment /educational opportunities. They flee their countries
to escape poverty or oppresssion, political or religious freedom.
Immigrants help build the US economy, pay taxes, work hard labor. They
fight for their right to be here through rigourous and invasive
immigration proceedings. Eventually obtain work-permit and/or residency
and ultimatley become US citizens. They dont stop fighting from the
minute they leave their country. They fight against white supremacy,
other races, wage differences, no government assistance. They work jobs
Americans are afraid to do or do not do at all. Talk about incarceration
and the term of Traspassers versus being seen as criminals. its a crime
to seek safety, freedom and security?
